About the role

Seeking a highly experienced educator for individualized academic support for an intellectually gifted elementary-aged student. The student is bright, highly verbal, curious, and eager to learn when connected to the material. He has ADHD and autism-spectrum traits, with primary challenges related to handwriting, fine-motor endurance, written expression, task initiation, and confidence. The primary goal is to strengthen academic skills while building confidence and maintaining a positive relationship with learning. Areas of Focus The tutor will support: Handwriting and fine-motor development Written expression and elaboration Expanding ideas beyond brief responses Writing fluency and endurance Task initiation and executive functioning Reducing writing avoidance Building confidence and independence as a learner
Ideal Candidate: A certified Reading Specialist is strongly preferred. Candidates with advanced training in reading, literacy, special education, or a related field will also be considered. Ideal qualifications include: Reading Specialist certification or equivalent advanced literacy training Master's degree or advanced training in reading, literacy, special education, or a related field Significant experience working with elementary-aged students Experience supporting students with ADHD and/or autism-spectrum learners Strong expertise in reading, writing, and written expressionExperience with multisensory or structured literacy approaches Experience providing individualized instruction Ability to use creative, engaging, and motivating instructional strategies Certified Reading Specialist strongly preferred Master’s degree or advanced training in Reading, Literacy, Special Education, or a related field 3+ years of experience working with elementary-aged students Demonstrated expertise in reading, writing, and written expressionExperience supporting students with ADHD and/or autism-spectrum traits Experience with handwriting and fine-motor development Familiarity with structured literacy and/or multisensory instruction Experience providing individualized, 1:1 instruction Strong understanding of executive functioning and task initiation challenges Ability to use creative, engaging, and motivating instructional strategies Experience with positive reinforcement, gamification, and technology-based learning Warm, patient, encouraging instructional approach Ability to adapt instruction based on the student's needs and emotional state Strong communication and collaboration skills with parents Commitment to building both academic skills and student confidence$60-$85 per hour, depending on experience
