About the role
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
- Experience working in home health, hospice, hospital, physician-office, or another healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with healthcare documentation and medical-records procedures.
- Experience with document scanning, electronic filing, and data entry.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in medical records, healthcare administration, medical office support, data entry, or a related administrative role is preferred.
- Experience working with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) systems is preferred.
- Familiarity with basic medical terminology and healthcare documentation is an advantage.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and general office technology.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to learn new electronic recordkeeping and administrative systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate and complete records.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet established deadlines.
- Ability to review, organize, file, scan, and maintain patient documentation accurately.
- Ability to recognize missing or incomplete information and communicate appropriately with the relevant team members.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and a professional approach when interacting with patients, healthcare professionals, and administrative staff.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential patient information with discretion and professionalism.
- Understanding of patient privacy and confidentiality requirements, including applicable HIPAA standards.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative healthcare team.
- Dependable, organized, detail-oriented, and able to maintain a professional attitude in a busy healthcare environment.
- Ability to follow established policies, procedures, documentation standards, and supervisory direction.
- Previous experience in home health, hospice, hospital, physician-office, or another healthcare setting is preferred but not required.
- Relevant education, training, or certification in medical records, health information management, healthcare administration, or a related field is a plus.
