SALARY
$120000 - $165000 / year
About the role
- Define and maintain future-state and target-state infrastructure architectures across on-premises systems, cloud platforms, networking, identity services, observability, resiliency, and foundational infrastructure.
- Develop architecture standards, reference designs, and guardrails that reduce risk, improve consistency, and enable delivery teams to move efficiently.
- Review infrastructure designs for alignment with availability, resiliency, security, scalability, operational readiness, and business objectives.
- Architect systems with failure modes, high availability, disaster recovery, lifecycle management, and recovery requirements as core design considerations.
- Lead architecture reviews and technical decision forums that guide cross-domain consistency, architectural integrity, and long-term platform direction.
- Partner with reliability, operations, security, and service management teams to ensure infrastructure supports observability, incident response, compliance, and continuous improvement.
- Mentor engineering and platform teams through technical guidance, architecture standards, and trusted expertise.
- Evaluate emerging infrastructure technologies with a focus on long-term value, operational maturity, risk reduction, cost effectiveness, and platform stability. Success in This Role Looks Like
- Infrastructure designs reduce unplanned downtime and improve system resilience.
- Architecture standards are clear, trusted, and consistently adopted across teams.
- Operational incidents result in fewer surprises and faster recovery.
- Architecture decisions improve understanding of service ownership, dependencies, and lifecycle risk.
- Infrastructure platforms scale reliably as Applied Medical grows. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check. This position requires the following skills and attributes:
- Holds a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, or a related discipline, or brings equivalent professional experience.
- Brings 10 or more years of progressive experience in infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, enterprise architecture, or related technology roles.
- Demonstrates proven experience designing enterprise-scale infrastructure with high availability, resiliency, security, scalability, and operational supportability requirements.
- Applies strong technical depth across multiple domains, including cloud platforms, data center infrastructure, networking, identity management, automation, observability, backup, disaster recovery, and foundational infrastructure services.
- Understands how infrastructure architecture decisions affect business continuity, system performance, security, cost, lifecycle management, and operational complexity.
- Develops architecture standards, reference designs, technical roadmaps, implementation guidance, and decision records.
- Reviews infrastructure designs and guides technical teams toward scalable, supportable, secure, and cost-effective solutions.
- Mentors and guides senior engineers and technical leaders through trusted expertise, practical standards, and collaborative influence.
- Communicates complex infrastructure concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. The following skills and attributes are preferred:
- Brings experience supporting regulated, manufacturing, medical device, life sciences, or high-availability business environments.
- Demonstrates familiarity with service reliability engineering practices, ITIL frameworks, DevOps principles, platform engineering, and service-centric architecture models.
- Designs systems that support real-world incident response, recovery, disaster recovery, business continuity, and continuous improvement.
- Shows exposure to enterprise service management platforms, CMDB concepts, infrastructure dependency modeling, or service ownership models.
- Has experience with hybrid infrastructure environments that include on-premises data centers, cloud platforms, networking, identity, automation, observability, and security controls.
- Demonstrates awareness of architecture governance practices such as design reviews, standards development, technical decision records, reference architectures, and exception management.
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
