Senior Research Advisor The New York City Mayor's Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five boroughs, coordinating public agencies and departments, and managing public property. The administration is leading the fight in making the city more affordable, reducing inequality, improving public safety, ensuring delivery of efficient and effective services, and working to make New York City's economy stronger. The Office of the First Deputy Mayor is seeking a qualified individual to serve as the Senior Research Advisor. This individual will serve as a trusted advisor to the Criminal Justice Coordinator. Duties include, but are not limited to: Monitor and synthesize emerging research, best practices, and evidence relevant to criminal justice and related fields. Develop and execute high-impact research projects for the Criminal Justice Coordinator in pursuit of advancing the administration's criminal justice agenda. Conduct data analysis on deflection, diversion, bail, pretrial services and supervised release, detention, case delay, case outcomes, youth justice, and reentry. Work in partnership with and conduct cross-agency collaboration with the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice and other city agencies. Produce executive briefings, research summaries, internal presentations, and evidence-based recommendations for senior leadership to support decision-making related to criminal justice. Translate complex evidence into clear, accurate insights that inform policy development, and support communications colleagues in representing research findings faithfully to the public. Report directly to the Criminal Justice Coordinator within the Office of the First Deputy Mayor; Additional responsibilities as required.
About You: You can work independently and within a fast-paced environment, as well as thrive in a collaborative and supportive team environment. You are highly organized and able to track multiple workstreams, timelines, and deliverables. You have demonstrated expertise in research design, policy evaluation, cross-system analysis, administrative data integration, quantitative and qualitative research methods, and evidence-building efforts. You are highly analytical and data-driven. You have exceptional written, oral communication, and presentation skills. You have experience working with multiple stakeholders. You are solution-oriented and able to analyze multiple policy perspectives into clear policy recommendations and options. You maintain confidentiality and use outstanding judgment daily.
Minimum Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required.5+ years of experience designing, conducting, and presenting complex research and data analysis.
Preferred Skills: You are familiar with the NYC criminal justice landscape. You have a demonstrated ability to generate and drive a project from conception to implementation, to identify gaps, relevant partners, criteria for decision-making, and analytic strategy.
