Digital Pre-Press Operator
california boxSanta Fe Springs (CA)
About the role
Calbox is a leading packaging manufacturer specializing in custom corrugated and POP displays. Our Digital department produces high-impact short-run work on state-of-the-art equipment, and we're looking for a Digital Prepress Operator to keep our presses running with precision.
This role is all about the art of file preparation. You'll preflight, layout, color manage, and prep every job to perfection before it hits our Durst P5 350 press and Elitron Kombo TAV cutter. If you're a prepress guru who geeks out over dielines and color profiles, this is the job for you.
Responsibilities:
Preflight customer artwork files for print readiness
Lay out artwork on dielines, checking panel orientation and safe zones
Impose and nest files for our Durst P5 350 large format press
Set up cut files for our Elitron Kombo TAV cutter
Partner with sales on art requirements and mockups
Work with press operators to troubleshoot any file issues
Maintain our prepress file system and job archive
Requirements:
3+ years prepress experience, ideally in a packaging environment
Expert in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat) and Esko tools
Comfortable working with dielines, technical drawings, and customer art files
Solid grasp of color management, resolution, and print production requirements
Experience with large format digital printing (Durst, HP, EFI) and finishing equipment
Highly detail-oriented with strong communication skills
Able to juggle multiple jobs in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Hands-on experience with Durst P5 350 and Elitron Kombo TAV
Knowledge of corrugated substrates and packaging structural design
Familiarity with Esko ArtiosCAD for dieline creation
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
