About the role
About the Company:
We’re working with a well-capitalized, high-growth renewable energy IPP hiring a Director of Transmission & Interconnection to lead interconnection strategy and execution across a utility-scale solar and energy storage portfolio.
About the Role:
This is a senior leadership role for someone who can operate at both the portfolio and project level: setting strategy, managing queue and study processes, identifying technical and commercial risks early, and building the systems and team structure needed to execute at scale.
Responsibilities:
Lead transmission and interconnection strategy across a utility-scale solar and storage portfolio. Manage queue positions, applications, studies, agreements, network upgrades, and energization timelines. Oversee utility, ISO, and RTO interconnection processes from application through execution. Build and lead the interconnection team, establishing clear ownership, accountability, and operating processes. Improve portfolio tracking, forecasting, and reporting around interconnection status, cost, schedule, and risk. Provide technical oversight of transmission studies, modeling assumptions, consultant work, and key deliverables. Partner with Development, Engineering, Commercial, Finance, Legal, and EPC teams to support project economics and execution. Manage external consultants and maintain strong relationships with utilities and ISO/RTO stakeholders. Identify risks early and provide clear recommendations to senior leadership.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.6+ years of experience in transmission, interconnection, grid integration, or power-system studies. Deep experience managing utility, ISO, and RTO interconnection processes for utility-scale generation and/or storage. Strong understanding of queue strategy, transmission studies, network upgrades, cost exposure, and schedule risk. Proven people-leadership experience, including team development and performance management. Strong technical and project-management skills with the ability to translate complex issues into clear business recommendations. Experience building scalable processes, tools, dashboards, or reporting systems. Experience managing technical consultants and external stakeholders. Experience in one or more major U.S. ISO/RTO markets strongly preferred.
Required Skills:
The strongest candidates will bring a blend of deep interconnection expertise and operational leadership. They will have managed complex interconnection portfolios, understand the commercial implications of transmission constraints and network-upgrade exposure, and know how to turn technical findings into practical project decisions.
Preferred Skills:
They will also be builders who are looking for an entrepreneurial environment where they can drive impact. The ideal candidate is someone who can take an existing foundation, improve the operating model, empower their team, and establish the systems needed to manage the function proactively rather than reactively.
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
