About the role

Christ the Redeemer Parish (CTR) in Lake Orion, Michigan (35 minutes north of downtown Detroit) seeks a dynamic, engaging and pastorally sensitive Minister of Music to provide, organize, perform and coordinate the music ministries for all weekend and holy day liturgies as well as funerals, weddings, quinceñeras and other special occasions and liturgies. Our parish repertoire is primarily contemporary but also includes traditional hymns. Due to the growth of our Latino population, we would prefer a Music Minister who is familiar with both English and Spanish songs and psalmody. This full-time position with benefits (as indicated by the Michigan Catholic Conference and the Archdiocese of Detroit) begins on April 15, 2027. Regular Duties and Responsibilities Plan and lead the assembly singing using Yamaha Grand Piano or Mechanical-Action Pipe organ for the three weekend Masses, holy days and other liturgies and occasions throughout the year. Rehearse with ensembles, instrumentalists and hand bells. Ability to arrange parts for vocalists and instrumentalists as needed. Engage the services of substitutes and guest musicians as needed. Maintain the music library, sound equipment and storage areas. Collaborate with the Worship Coordinator, Pastor and other members of the parish staff. Collaborate with the Mission Support Coordinator (Finance Director) to create the annual music budget. Skills and Experience Excellent keyboard skills for piano and organ with a fine singing voice to lead the assembly in full, active and conscious participation. Experience leading vocal ensembles and hand bells. A Bachelor’s degree in music, music education or performance and/or three years of experience in a similar church position. Knowledge of liturgical music as guided by the Vatican II document Sacrosanctum Concilium, The General Instruction of the Roman Missal and Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. Ability to minister with and to various age groups. Willingness to develop musical and language skills. Be a practicing Roman Catholic with a heart and attitude for ministry and serving the People of God.
