Director of Underwriting – Commercial & Personal Lines Orlando, FL or Sarasota, FL $140-150k A growing Property & Casualty insurance organization is seeking aDirector of Underwritingto lead Commercial and Personal Lines underwriting strategy, portfolio management, and underwriting operations. This executive leadership role will be responsible for driving profitable growth, underwriting quality, operational excellence, agency relationships, and talent development while partnering closely with Product Management, Actuarial, Claims, Sales, Technology, Compliance, and executive leadership.
What You'll Do: Develop and execute underwriting strategies that drive profitable growth and portfolio performance Establish underwriting appetite, risk selection standards, and underwriting guidelines Monitor profitability, catastrophe exposure, market conditions, and competitive trends Lead underwriting operations, workflow optimization, service standards, and quality initiatives Coach, develop, and mentor underwriting leaders and staff Drive underwriting technology, automation, and process improvement initiatives Build and strengthen agency partnerships and distribution strategies Present portfolio results, key trends, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership Ensure regulatory compliance, governance, and vendor management excellence
What We're Looking For: 10+ years of carrier underwriting experience, primarily in Commercial Lines 5+ years of underwriting leadership and people management experience Strong background in underwriting strategy, portfolio management, and profitability analysis Experience leading operational improvements, technology initiatives, and workflow enhancements Knowledge of underwriting compliance, loss control, premium audit, and agency management Bachelor's degree required; CPCU and/or MBA preferred Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills Why Consider This Opportunity?
