About the role
The Congressional Budget Office is a small nonpartisan agency that provides economic, budgetary, and policy analysis to Congress. The National Security Division seeks an experienced defense analyst, preferably with experience estimating the costs of defense acquisition programs, to lead studies on a range of potential topics, including the costs and capabilities of military aviation, space, air and missile defense, and C3 (command, control, and communications) systems. Recently published work analyzed homeland missile defenses, proliferated constellations of satellites, hypersonic weapons, and small unmanned aircraft systems. CBO's analysts communicate their findings to Congress and the public in reports and letters, by briefing committee staff and delivering testimony, and through innovative vehicles such as online tools and infographics.

Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
