About the role

Please closely read the job requirements before applying. Thanks! We're working with a growing non-bank lender looking to add a Director of Underwriting to its credit team. The firm specializes in financing start-ups to middle-market businesses, with a particular focus on sponsor-backed consumer brands across food & beverage, health & wellness, beauty, and other consumer products. This is a hands-on individual contributor role, working directly with the Managing Partner (Head of Credit) and taking ownership of transactions from initial underwriting through closing. The team operates at a fast pace, with multiple deals in progress at any given time and typical turnaround times of approximately four weeks. Candidates must have:9+ years of relevant credit underwriting experience, preferably within private credit, specialty finance, or non-bank lending. Strong, demonstrable experience with asset-based lending (ABL) structures. Experience underwriting consumer products businesses, particularly sponsor-backed companies in food & beverage, beauty, health & wellness, or related sectors. Strong financial modeling, cash flow analysis, borrowing base assessment, and collateral evaluation skills. Experience managing the full transaction lifecycle, including diligence, credit approval, legal documentation, and closing. Ability to manage multiple deals simultaneously in a fast-paced, high-volume lending environment. Highly desired: Significant experience working for non-bank lenders, private credit funds, or independent commercial finance companies. Experience with complex or unconventional middle-market credits requiring creative structuring and thorough diligence. We are particularly interested in candidates coming from private credit and non-bank lending backgrounds. Candidates from traditional banking environments will also be considered, provided they have exceptionally strong credit training and significant hands-on middle-market underwriting experience. If you're interested and meet the above qualifications, email Sean at sean.salamon@jcwgroup.com, attaching your resume. Thanks!

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
