About the role
Process Engineer — Steelmaking Operations
About the Role:
We are seeking a Process Engineer to bridge the gap between engineering theory and hands-on production in our heavy industrial steelmaking facility. In this role, you will serve as a technical subject matter expert across key production units (Consteel, EAF, LMF, VTD, and Continuous Caster), driving process optimization, root-cause troubleshooting, and quality control to boost plant efficiency and safety.
What You’ll Do:
Process Improvement & Optimization: Identify plant bottlenecks, perform root-cause analysis (RCA), and implement data-driven initiatives to reduce waste (scrap/slag) and improve yield. Technical Ownership: Provide immediate engineering support to production and maintenance teams to resolve day-to-day operational challenges. Standardization: Develop, refine, and enforce clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure repeatable quality, operational stability, and strong safety compliance. Quality & Data Analytics: Collaborate with metallurgical quality teams to investigate defects, leverage Statistical Process Control (SPC), and improve final product consistency. Sustainability & Safety: Lead process adjustments that support energy efficiency, emissions reduction, and a safety-first workplace culture. The Candidate Will Possess
Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical, Chemical, Materials, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Industrial Experience:
Practical background or exposure to heavy manufacturing, primary metals, or foundry operations (steelmaking environment strongly preferred).Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with core production equipment (EAF, LMF, VTD, Caster) and engineering problem-solving tools (SPC, RCA, 5-Why, Fishbone diagrams).Collaborative Leadership: Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate across cross-functional teams, including Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Safety. Operational Drive: A proactive approach to troubleshooting, high attention to detail, and a commitment to zero-incident safety standards. Compensation & Perks
Competitive Salary: $110,000-125,000 / year (commensurate with experience)
Performance Bonus: Annual incentive / profit-sharing eligibility
Comprehensive Benefits:
Medical, dental, and vision coverage starting Day 15 Retirement Plan: 401(k) with employer match Time Off: Paid vacation, personal days, and paid holidays Career Growth: Ongoing professional development and training opportunities Key Performance Metrics (KPIs) for Success Production & Efficiency: Drive overall yield improvement, increase production rates (tons per hour), and reduce energy consumption and operating costs per ton. Quality & Reliability: Lower scrap and rework rates, improve First-Pass Yield (FPY) and Process Capability Index, and reduce quality-related customer complaints. Safety & Environment: Minimize safety incident rates, reduce environmental excursions, and lower hazardous waste generation. Project Execution & Support: Complete capital and process improvement projects on time and on budget while maximizing ROI and maintaining SOP compliance.
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
