Job Description: The ideal candidate will ensure that students are effective users of technology and information, and will empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical digital citizens. In addition, the ideal candidate will:
  • Ensure equitable access to learning opportunities
  • Have a strong content knowledge of the DLCS curriculum frameworks
  • Establish a positive and focused classroom learning environment for all students
  • Work collaboratively toward program and district goals
  • Understand culturally responsive pedagogy and the importance of diverse representation in instructional and library materials
  • Have strong technology skills, including but not limited to Google
  • Workspace and interest in teaching learning how to use a range of educational technology tools
Education, Work Experience, and Licensure: Required Bachelor’s Degree Department of Education License as a Library Media Specialist or Digital Literacy/Computer Science teacher SEI Endorsement MA DESE Certified Acceptable CORI, SORI, DCF, and fingerprint report as determined by the Superintendent Preferred Prior work experience as a Library/Digital Literacy/Computer Teacher Additional DESE certification in another content area. Supervision: Reports to the Building Principal
Job Responsibilities: Implement the established curriculum and instructional plans in alignment with the Massachusetts Digital Literacy & Computer Science Standards and school expectations. Follow existing programs of study and instructional plans while responding appropriately to the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students. Maintain a positive, safe, and supportive classroom environment consistent with School Committee policies, school expectations, and established classroom procedures. Utilize and maintain existing instructional resources appropriate to the curriculum, learners, and instructional strategies. Provide learning experiences that promote critical thinking, research skills, problem-solving, and the ability to synthesize and evaluate information. Support the social and emotional needs of students through positive relationship building, appropriate classroom support, and engaging instruction. Maintain established procedures for the use, organization, circulation, and sharing of instructional resources and technology. Promote the responsible and ethical use of digital information, technology, and online resources. Maintain timely and professional communication with classroom teachers, staff, administrators, and parents/guardians regarding student progress, classroom expectations, curriculum, and learning opportunities, as appropriate. Collaborate with teachers and staff to ensure continuity of instruction, student support, and classroom expectations throughout the long-term assignment. Attend staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and other required school activities as directed by the administration. Deliver established courses and instructional activities involving computers, digital literacy, computer science, and related technologies. Provide appropriate instructional support to classroom teachers regarding the use of technology, software applications, hardware, and digital tools, within the scope of the long-term substitute assignment. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, assignments, grades, and other instructional information in accordance with school procedures. Communicate regular with the supervising administrator regarding instructional progress, student needs, and any concerns that arise during the assignment. Maintain continuity of the program and leave organized instructional materials, records, and relevant information for the returning teacher or successor. Library/Media Center Foster a creative, flexible environment so that the school library is an essential part of the learning community Provides library services and resources that meet the needs of all students and staff and support the MA Curriculum Frameworks Cooperate and network with other libraries/agencies Collaborate with teachers and staff to develop curricular content that integrates library media and technology skills Assist students, faculty, and staff in locating library resources Plan, create, and update library/technology displays Take initiative and work independently/collaboratively Actively promote reading, information literacy skills, and information resource use through activities including book clubs, reading programs, reading initiatives, DLCS projects, and other special events Model and promote effective uses of technology for learning and teaching Stay current in professional practices and educational research; maintain active professional memberships
