Role Overview:
The Butcher performs harvest and slaughter functions across multiple stations, manages by-products and waste handling, and supports overall cleanliness and organization of the harvest floor. This role requires cross-functional capability, technical skill, and strict adherence to regulatory and company standards.
Key Responsibilities:
· Perform humane harvest of animals using approved mechanical equipment and knives in accordance with company and regulatory requirements· Maintain strict adherence to animal welfare standards throughout all handling and processing activities· Execute butchering tasks across a minimum of five harvest/slaughter stations to support operational flow and flexibility· Ensure proper cleanup of animal waste, by-products, and processing areas· Transport inedible materials and waste to designated rendering or disposal locations· Operate company vehicles, movers, and forklifts upon proper certification· Interact with USDA FSIS inspectors as required during operations· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times· Identify and communicate any food safety, animal welfare, or operational concerns immediately to leadership· Support additional plant and facility needs as assigned (equipment maintenance, groundskeeping, etc.)Operational Expectations· Execute tasks efficiently while maintaining precision and compliance· Maintain proper knife handling, sharpening, and tool control practices· Follow all PPE, safety, and GMP requirements without exception· Work effectively in a fast-paced, physically demanding production environment Compliance & Standards· Adhere to all USDA, HACCP, SSOP, GMP, and animal welfare requirements· Ensure all processes meet company and regulatory expectations· Maintain audit-ready conditions within all assigned areas· Uphold the highest standards of hygiene, professionalism, and workplace conduct Work Environment & Expectations· Perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 75 lbs· Work extended periods on feet in a production environment· Operate in conditions involving exposure to animal by-products and varying temperatures· Performance Standard· Success in this role is measured by:· Compliance with animal welfare and regulatory requirements· Execution accuracy and efficiency across harvest stations· Cleanliness and organization of work areas· Adherence to safety and food safety standards· Reliability and contribution to overall production flow
