About the role
The National Havurah Committee’sTimbrel Artist-in-Residence Programseeksartists with talent and passion to share at the 2022 Havurah Summer Institute, Hartford, CT.Jews of Color are especially encouraged toapply. Artists from all disciplines are welcome. Past artists have taught in thedisciplines of music, theater, storytelling, puppetry, poetry, visual arts, anddance, among others. Artists-in-Residence will receive admission to the Institute for themselves and their families, an honorarium of $1,500, and abudget for materials and travel.
This year’s Summer Institute is planned for July 25–31, with the theme of:
וְיַחֵד לְבָבֵנוּ/ Unite Our Hearts / v’Yacheid L’vaveinu.
The National Havurah Committee has begun an ongoing effort towards increasing diversity and equityin our community. This includes community education addressing the reality ofthe community’s history as one predominantly comprising white Jews, proactively inviting Jews of Color into the community — particularly intoprominent roles like the Artist in Residence, establishing systems of support for Jews of Color who attend, and hiring consultants who are Jews of Color toguide us in this process.
Applications are due by January 16, 2022.
The Jewish Art Salon (JAS) is a 501.c.3 non-profit organization. It is a global network of contemporary visual artists and art professionals. Established in 2008 and based in New York City, JAS has over 400 members and over 2,000 participants. Through its 60+ shows, events and collaborations in the US, Europe and Israel, JAS has reached approximately 30,000 individuals since its inception. JAS provides important programs and resources, and develops lasting partnerships with the international art community and the general public.
