About the role

A growing organization is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to take ownership of payroll operations and ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across the organization. This individual contributor role offers the opportunity to oversee critical payroll functions while partnering closely with leadership to enhance processes, maintain compliance, and drive operational efficiency. The Payroll Manager will manage end-to-end payroll processing for exempt and non-exempt employees and serve as the organization's primary payroll subject matter expert. This role is responsible for ensuring payroll accuracy, supporting compliance initiatives, maintaining employee payroll records, and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities: Process weekly and biweekly payroll accurately and on time. Administer payroll adjustments, including garnishments, deductions, reimbursements, bonus payments, and other payroll-related transactions. Serve as the primary resource for payroll inquiries and issue resolution. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and reporting requirements. Maintain payroll records and employee data within the payroll system. Support payroll tax filings, audits, and regulatory reporting as needed. Oversee year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing and related reporting requirements. Prepare payroll reports, analytics, and reconciliations for leadership and finance teams. Assist with monthly close activities, including payroll-related journal entries, account reconciliations, and reporting support. Partner with HR and Finance to ensure accurate employee setup, pay changes, and payroll-related data management. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance payroll accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls. Stay current on payroll regulations, compliance requirements, and industry best practices. Participate in special projects and other payroll-related initiatives as needed.
Qualifications: 5-10+ years of progressive payroll experience. Strong understanding of payroll regulations, wage and hour laws, payroll tax requirements, and compliance best practices. Experience managing multi-state payroll processing preferred. Experience with ADP or a comparable payroll platform is strongly preferred. Experience supporting payroll audits, tax filings, and year-end reporting processes. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities independently while maintaining a high level of accuracy. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
