About the role

Founding Backend Engineer | Seed-Stage Sports Fintech NYC Onsite | $200k + EquityDevLogic has partnered exclusively with a seed-funded startup in New York building a consumer investment platform in the sports space. They're hiring their first full-time backend engineer to own the core of the platform. The company Seed round closed, backed by investors from the world of professional sport Regulated by the SEC, after an approval process that took over six months. That's a barrier most competitors won't get past. Built-in network effects: once fans and athletes are on the platform, there's little reason to leave Not an AI company. They use AI to build, but the product is about sport and real money, a market that keeps growing whatever happens to the AI hype cycle Live with real users and real athletes signed
The role:
  • You'll own the backend. You'll work directly with the CTO, who has built across consumer, B2B SaaS and fintech. Nobody will hand you a ticket list. The expectation is that you decide what matters most, explain why, and see it through from start to finish.
  • What you'll work onDesigning the backend architecture as the platform scales
  • Building the systems that move customer money from their bank into escrow with regulated partners
  • Making sure every dollar is tracked correctly, with nothing lost or double-counted
  • Fraud prevention, and making sure legal records are signed and attributed to the right people
  • Integrations with brokerage, banking and transfer agent partners
Stack: TypeScript and Node.js. If your background is Python, Go, Java or similar, that's fine. Strong backend fundamentals matter more than the language. What they're looking for 4+ years of backend or software development experience You've built and owned a serious backend system, not just one small piece of itExperience integrating with third-party APIs, ideally financial ones Fintech experience (payments, brokerage, ledgers, money movement) is a big plus but not a must A clear communicator who's comfortable working directly with founders A genuine interest in sport, or at least real curiosity about the space You don't need to have worked at an early-stage startup. If you're at a mid-stage company or in big tech and want your work to actually move the business, this is worth a look. What to expect45 to 55 hours a week depending on the week. It's not a 996 culture, but the team moves quickly. No hand-holding. You'll have a lot of ownership from day one. Office in NYC Onsite Compensation$200,000 base salary Founding-level equity Why I'm excited about this oneI've spent a lot of time with the founding team. They're building something that gets real money into the hands of up-and-coming athletes and lets fans share in the upside of the sport they already spend their money on. It's one of the few early-stage products I've seen this year that doesn't rely on AI to justify itself. I'm running this search exclusively, so every application comes straight to me and I'll reply to everyone personally. Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
