About the role

Bridges to Housing Stability is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, serving Howard County, MD. Bridges believes that housing is the key to a household's stability. Whether resolving the issue of homelessness or preventing a household from becoming homeless, our goal goes beyond crisis intervention – our approach and mission focuses on long term housing stability for our target populations. One of our flagship programs, Alliance, provides affordable rental housing for households that earn low to moderate incomes. Today the program owns or operates 61 rental homes in the County. Tenant leases are for one year and are renewable. When tenants move out of Alliance units the spaces need a little TLC. Unit turnover projects can range from as little as basic spackle and painting to bigger projects like new tiling. Each project is offered to volunteers; volunteers are not required to take on every project. We are looking for volunteer project group members with minimal to high levels of relevant experience (handiwork, home maintenance, painting, renovations). Group members can come either as an already formed group wanting to take on projects together, or as an individual looking to be assigned to a group.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
