About the role

Leading global banking institution seeks an experienced Head of Loan Review – Americas with 10–15 years of banking, loan review, credit review, or credit risk review experience. This senior leadership role is responsible for the independent review of the U.S. loan portfolio, including the effectiveness of credit risk identification, risk ratings, underwriting and documentation, collateral, problem credits, and policy and regulatory compliance. The Head of Loan Review will lead the Loan Review function, establish review methodologies and annual and multi-year review plans, manage and develop the team, and communicate findings and follow-up actions to senior management and governance committees while maintaining the independence of the function.
Key Responsibilities: Lead the independent review of the U.S. loan portfolio and evaluate the effectiveness of credit risk identification, underwriting, administration, and ongoing monitoring. Develop and maintain Loan Review policies, methodologies, risk-based review standards, and annual and multi-year review plans. Assess credit risk ratings, loan documentation, collateral, covenant compliance, problem credits, exceptions, and adherence to internal credit policies and applicable regulatory guidance. Evaluate credit quality across specialized and commercial lending areas, including commercial real estate, oil & gas, project finance, C&I, and large corporate lending. Review origination, underwriting, documentation, portfolio management, and restructuring/workout practices and identify emerging or systemic credit-risk issues. Prepare clear, independent Loan Review reports, communicate findings to senior management and governance committees, and monitor corrective actions and follow-up. Lead, staff, train, and develop the Loan Review team and ensure appropriate expertise, coverage, and quality across review activities. Maintain the independence and objectivity of the Loan Review function and support regulatory examinations and related inquiries.
Qualifications: 10–15 years of banking and credit experience, with substantial experience in Loan Review, Credit Review, or Credit Risk Review and exposure to restructuring/workouts. Strong knowledge of commercial and specialized lending, including commercial real estate, oil & gas, project finance, C&I, and large corporate credit. Demonstrated expertise in credit risk ratings, problem credits, exceptions, loan documentation, collateral, underwriting, and portfolio risk assessment. Experience developing or executing risk-based loan review programs, policies, methodologies, and annual or multi-year review plans. Prior management experience with demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and oversee credit or loan review professionals. Strong analytical judgment and the ability to communicate independent credit conclusions effectively to senior management and governance committees. Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or CFA preferred. Reporting & Governance: The Head of Loan Review – Americas reports administratively to the CUSO Chief Risk Officer and functionally to the U.S. Risk Committee, supporting the independence and objectivity of the Loan Review function.
