About the Role: As a Custom Crate Fabrication and Logistics Technician, you’ll blend hands-on craftsmanship with shipping and receiving operations to ensure every customer order leaves our facility protected, labeled, documented, and on time. Reporting to the Production Manager, you’ll build one-of-a-kind crates for complex machines, prepare orders for shipment, receive and store incoming goods, support production with material pulls, and pitch in on light building maintenance—including occasional snow removal—so our operation runs smoothly.
A Day in the Life: Transform packing lists into ready-to-ship orders—verify order-to-product match, then box, crate, and shrink-wrap as appropriate. Design and assemble custom wood crates tailored to each machine’s dimensions and handling needs. Load outbound trucks and unload inbound deliveries with a forklift and pallet jack; safeguard all materials in transit through proper strapping and placement. Examine materials upon receipt, confirm bills of lading, and verify both quantity and quality before moving items to storage. Stage and deliver materials from storage to production as needed to keep workflows moving. Operate a bander to secure boxes and pallets for shipment. Apply accurate address labels and any carrier-required special handling labels. Complete and organize all shipping/receiving paperwork to established standards. Keep the department orderly and safe through consistent housekeeping. Process recyclable materials in accordance with internal procedures. Open and process overseas crates. Use nail guns, rip saws, pneumatic tools, and the full range of skid-building tools. Perform routine maintenance on Star Automation’s property and related structures. Handle occasional light snow removal and building maintenance (inside and outside).Care for tools and equipment to ensure reliability and longevity. Take on additional assignments, special projects, and other duties as needed.
Skills and Experience
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Experience: 3+ years in building maintenance or a related field preferred; familiarity with hand and power tools strongly preferred. Communication: Able to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; comfortable speaking in small group and 1:1 settings. Math: Add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Reasoning: Apply common sense to follow detailed but straightforward instructions; resolve issues with a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Office Tools: Capable of using standard office equipment (computer, telephone, fax, copier, etc.).Proficiencies: Valid driver’s license; meets physical requirements; high school/GED; basic computer skills. Machines & Tech: Power tools and forklifts; pallet jacks; bander.
Physical Demands: This is an active role. You will frequently stand, walk, sit, handle tools and materials, reach overhead, and communicate. You’ll occasionally climb or balance and may stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or use foot controls. Expect to frequently lift or move up to 50 lbs and occasionally more than 100 lbs. Essential vision capabilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work Setting Work occurs in a production environment where exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and certain chemicals is routine. At times you’ll work near moving machinery, at heights, and around electrical systems. Noise levels are typically loud; PPE and safe practices are essential. Schedule, Pay, and Location
