About the role

Human Frontier Collective Fellowship The Human Frontier Collective (HFC) brings together researchers, academics, and domain leaders across 70+ fields to shape the future of AI. Members hold doctorates and represent leading institutions. HFC focuses on three core pillars: the network itself, participation in AI/ML projects, and opportunities to publish with the research team. Join an interdisciplinary community of top innovators and thought leaders committed to advancing frontier AI. You'll be invited to work on high-impact projects with Scale AI and its affiliated lab and platform, including building AI safety and policy guardrails, evaluating AI models, and co-authoring research publications. PhDs, postdoctoral researchers, and professors with domain expertise in STEM fields such as Computer Science, Machine Learning, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Humanities, or other related disciplines are encouraged to apply. Detail-oriented, innovative thinkers with a passion for applied AI research and a commitment to collaboration are ideal candidates. This is a fully remote opportunity with no fixed end date; engagements continue as long as there's mutual interest. This is a 1099 independent contractor engagement. To participate in the HFC Fellows program, you need to have or independently obtain full-time work authorization in the US.Once invited to join the HFC, you'll gain access to newsletters, discussion channels, virtual sessions, IRL events, and more. You'll regularly get matched to carefully selected projects from our partners, ranging from evaluating AI models to designing experiments, building RL environments, and co-authoring research papers. There's no minimum commitment – you decide whether to take on a project. Pay rates vary across platforms and depend on a number of factors, including projects, scope, skillset, and location. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Successful candidates will receive an invitation to join the Human Frontier Collective Fellowship.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
