About the Role: A well-established metal fabrication facility is looking for a motivated and mechanically inclined Tool Room Mechanic to learn the trade from the ground up alongside an experienced mentor. One of two long-tenured tool room staff recently retired, and the remaining team member is ready and willing to pass on decades of knowledge to the right person. This role is for someone eager to learn, take ownership, and build a long-term career in a skilled trade that is increasingly hard to find. The tool room itself is clean, organized, and air-conditioned. This is a quality environment with a team that takes pride in their work and wants to bring someone in who shares that mindset.

The company has its own way of doing things, refined over decades, and they are looking for someone who wants to learn that approach rather than come in with fixed habits from somewhere else.
Responsibilities: Learn and perform maintenance, inspection, repair, and refurbishment of tooling, dies, punches, and related equipment under the guidance of an experienced mentor Assess worn or broken tooling and fabricate solutions using manual machining equipment Operate manual machine tools including lathes, milling machines, grinders, drill presses, and surface grinders Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints where available; some tooling is legacy with no prints and requires hands-on judgment Measure and inspect tooling using precision instruments including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and height gauges Perform tooling setup, alignment, and adjustments to ensure proper product dimensions and quality Support changeovers and assist production teams during setup and startup activities Maintain tooling inventory and document repairs, modifications, and maintenance activity Follow all safety, quality, and housekeeping standards
Requirements: High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training is a strong plus Manual machining or hands-on CNC setup background with hands-on experience on lathes and mills is preferred Mechanically inclined candidates without formal lathe and mill experience will be considered if they demonstrate strong aptitude and eagerness to learn Blueprint reading skills are a plus Willingness to learn and expand skills Team-oriented, reliable, and committed to a clean and safe work environment Compensation and Benefits$30.00 to $35.00 per hour Clean, organized, air-conditioned tool room environment One-on-one mentorship from an experienced tool room professional Stable, full-time role with long-term growth potential as skills developA chance to master a skilled trade that is increasingly rare and highly valued This is a role for someone who is hands-on, hungry to learn, and ready to build something real in a trade worth knowing.
