About the role
NewsWatch 12, this year's Oregon Station of the Year and leading news in Southern Oregon, is looking for a Chief Meteorologist. Our station is located in the beautiful Rogue Valley near the Southern Oregon Wine Trail and is just a short drive away from great hiking, mountain biking, skiing, golfing, fishing, and whitewater rafting, so weather is king in the region.
As Chief Meteorologist, you will prepare and deliver weather content across all broadcast and digital platforms. The successful candidate is computer savvy (knowledge of WSI MAX is a plus) and has great writing, speaking, and organizational skills. A degree in meteorology, with a minimum of two (2) years' broadcast meteorology experience required.
KDRV is the market leader and has been #1 in local news for more than 30 years. We produce 35 hours of local television news per week, plus digital and social coverage throughout the day. We serve a large area across six counties in Southern Oregon and our part of Northern California. This is a great opportunity to test your on-air and forecasting skills in a dynamic weather environment with ocean beaches, mountain ranges, scenic river valleys, and be the leading voice for our FireWatch Coverage.
We offer great benefits including medical, vision, dental, and life insurance, 401(k), and a generous PTO plan (vacation, sick, holidays).
Some additional requirements
A pre-employment drug screen and background check are required.
Good driving record. Must possess or be able to obtain an Oregon driver’s license.
Must be able to use, transport, and lift equipment weighing approximately 50 pounds.
About our company
KDRV is part of Allen Media Broadcasting, a division of Entertainment Studios/Allen Media Group, one of the largest privately-owned media companies in the nation. AMG owns 11 24-hour HD television networks, including The Weather Channel.
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
