About the role
- Lead, build, and manage the firm's Tax Services Division, establishing quality standards and a client-first culture
- Oversee and review complex individual (Form 1040), business (1120, 1120-S, 1065), trust, and estate tax returns
- Develop and implement proactive, personalized tax planning strategies — with particular expertise serving pre-retirees and retirees
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, providing clear guidance on the tax implications of investments, income, distributions, estate planning, and major life events
- Represent clients before the IRS and state tax authorities in audits, correspondence, appeals, and collection matters
- Partner closely with financial advisors to create cohesive, integrated wealth and tax strategies
- Monitor and communicate changes in federal and Nevada state tax law to staff and clients in a timely manner
- Onboard, train, and mentor tax staff as the division grows
- Maintain exceptional client relationships by being responsive, approachable, and proactive — consistently delivering that "wow" client experience
- Ensure all work-product meets the firm's standards for accuracy, timeliness, and professionalism
- Assist with onboarding new tax clients and identifying opportunities to expand services to existing financial planning clients
- Active CPA license (South Carolina and North Carolina or reciprocal) or current IRS Enrolled Agent (EA) designation — required
- Minimum 5 years of tax preparation and planning experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or senior role
- Strong expertise in individual tax planning, including retirement-related issues (RMDs, Roth conversions, Social Security taxation, IRMAA surcharges)
- Solid knowledge of business entity taxation (S-Corps, partnerships, LLCs)
- Proficiency in professional tax software (Drake, UltraTax, Lacerte, or similar
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills — ability to explain complex tax matters to clients in plain, approachable languageHighly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with ease
- Articulate, pleasant, dependable, and committed to maintaining an exceptional work culture
- Experience working within a financial advisory, wealth management, or financial planning firm
- Familiarity with estate and trust taxation, charitable giving strategies, and business succession planning
- Experience representing clients in IRS audits or appeals
- Background working with high-net-worth individuals, retirees, and small business owners
- Familiarity with financial planning software (eMoney or similar) is a plus
- Competitive base salary of $85,000–$100,000+ depending on experience and credentials
