Position Summary: The primary job responsibilities include providing genetic counseling to patients referred for a variety of indications including maternal age, abnormal screening results, abnormal ultrasound findings, family history, pregnancy loss, teratogenic exposure and infertility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Case preparation for the counseling session may include review of previous pertinent screening or testing results, research regarding the condition of concern and arranging for appropriate testing. The Genetic Counselor will coordinate testing which may include chorionic villus sampling, amniocentesis, ultrasound, and carrier screening. Demonstrate good case management skills, communication with the maternal‑fetal medicine physicians, other medical specialists, referring obstetric providers, and various laboratories. The Genetic Counselor will provide follow‑up by contacting the patient and referring providers with test results, documentation of the counseling session and results of the testing, and assist with arrangements for additional consultations or testing. Cases may be presented in care conferences for management and student education. Critical thinking and an independent work ethos can be rewarded with considerable autonomy in this work setting. In addition to responsibilities related to direct patient care, the genetic counseling staff has opportunities for participation in education via the provision of lectures to various student groups, other medical providers, and lay groups. Collaboration in clinical research is encouraged.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Skills and Abilities: Content knowledge commensurate with essential job duties and responsibilities. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with patients, physicians, and hospital employees. Demonstrate courtesy, respect, and professionalism in all interactions with patients, visitors, co‑workers, and physicians. Ability to adjust personal schedule to meet the needs of the department. Work collaboratively with co‑workers and supervisors.
Minimum Education and Experience: Master’s degree from a graduate program accredited by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) Must seek certification as a Genetic Counselor from ABGC within two years of hire date. Must maintain certification by completion of the required CEUs for the period prescribed by the Board. Current CPR Certification required.
Salary Range: Minimum $32.62/hour - Maximum $53.81/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority. The Hospital reserves the right to modify employee schedules as needed.
