Job Title: Engineer - Manufacturing Tooling
Location: Merritt Island, Florida, 32953 Duration: 6 months
Contract Job Description: In this role, you will design simple tooling for client. You will be expected to proactively understand tooling needs based on build and production flow, develop effective tooling solutions, and address unforeseen technical challenges. We are looking for someone who can apply technical expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to quality to contribute to safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required.
Responsibilities: • Design, create, and release CAD models and engineering drawings for simple tooling in accordance with ASME Y14.5 design and drafting standards.• Solve technical design challenges involving assembly fixtures, material-handling equipment, rotisseries, test fixtures, structural weldments, environmental chambers, and custom machinery.• Manage tooling projects from concept through commissioning, including vendor selection, procurement, fabrication, inspection, installation, and proof testing.• Establish procurement and fabrication priorities and communicate them clearly to the team.• Define and support repair and rework activities.• Perform root cause analyses for nonconformances and implement corrective actions.• Develop appropriate material-handling and packaging requirements to protect hardware.• Collaborate with component designers, Manufacturing Engineers, and Integration Engineering to optimize safety, cost, quality, cycle time, delivery, reliability, service life, and maintainability. •Qualifications• B.S. degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience.• Experience with tooling design, fabrication, and procurement.• Proven experience with CAD-based design software for modeling and drafting.• Experience with Creo Parametric and Windchill CAD/PDM systems.• Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals related to mechanical design and manufacturing, including GD&T.• Ability to create free-body diagrams, identify load cases, and perform basic hand calculations for common failure modes.• Three or more years of direct manufacturing experience.• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, a U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Desired Qualifications: • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.• Self-directed and able to balance multiple tasks simultaneously.• Demonstrated understanding of common manufacturing materials, GD&T, and tolerance stack-up analysis.• Demonstrated understanding of common manufacturing processes and equipment, including CNC machining, manual mills and lathes, welding, sheet-metal bending, lifting and rigging, assembly, and inspection.• Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and complex structural analysis; experience with ANSYS Workbench Static Structural is preferred.• Strong expertise in design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA), including experience taking products from development through rate production.
