Department: Office of Public Works Division: Building & Z0NING Work Location:300 S 7TH ST SPRINGFIELD, Illinois, 62701 United States Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Starting Rate: $29.7166 Hourly Eligibility Requirements: Open to All Applicants Union: IBEW 193 Audio Visual/Inspectors Final Date to Apply: 9/8/2026 at 5:59 PM Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Inspect HVAC installations, repairs, and alterations for compliance with City codes and ordinances. Review permit applications, plans, and specifications, and approve permits as appropriate. Investigate complaints, identify code violations, and inspect existing structures for unsafe conditions. Maintain inspection records, prepare reports, and issue notices of violations and corrective actions. Provide guidance to contractors, property owners, design professionals, and the public on code requirements. Enforce HVAC codes through stop- work orders, legal proceedings, and court testimony as required.
Required Qualifications: Knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to four years of high school, fouryears of responsible training in the HVAC trade and an additional five years ofwork experience in the HVAC field, or any equivalent combination of trainingand experience. Possessionof or ability to acquire and maintain International Code Council (ICC) Mechanical Inspection Certification within timeframe specified by the City of Springfield and valid Class D driver's license is also required. Preference for employment in all positions with the city shall be given to applicants who are full-time city residents. To be eligible to apply, current City employees must have completed their probationary period and attained certified status in their current position.
