Vice President of Construction
viridan groupDenver (CO)
About the role
A well-capitalized, private equity-backed renewables developer is building out its construction leadership team as it scales a fast-growing pipeline of utility-scale solar and battery storage projects across North America. This is a field-first leadership role for someone who wants to run construction, not just oversee it: full ownership of delivery from the moment a project breaks ground through to commercial operation. What the role is You'll report to the COO and take the reins the moment a project is handed off from pre-construction, contract signed, budget approved, schedule set, and carry it the rest of the way: managing embedded field teams, holding EPC contractors to account, and steering the project through commissioning and COD. You'll typically have several projects running in parallel across different states, so this is as much about building repeatable systems as it is about solving problems on any single site. Expect to spend real time keeping contractors honest on schedule, cost, quality, and safety, and just as much time making sure your own reporting up to leadership, lenders, and tax equity partners is clean and credible. Where you'll spend your time Running day-to-day delivery across a multi-project, multi-state portfolio: budget, schedule, safety, and quality all live on your dashboard Managing EPC relationships hard: enforcing contract terms, working through change orders, and knowing when to push versus when to escalate Owning the safety culture on every site, including audits, incident investigations, and root cause follow-through Steering commissioning and punch-list closeout through to a clean COD handoff to the asset management team Tracking cost and schedule in detail, including contingency drawdowns, lender draw packages, and construction monitoring Acting as the face of construction to utilities, ISOs, local authorities, and community stakeholders on interconnection and site issues What you bring 12+ years in construction or project leadership within utility-scale power generation or renewables, including 5+ years running multi-project portfolios at 500 MW-plus annual scaleA real track record: solar PV projects of 100 MW or larger, delivered from notice to proceed through to commercial operation Sharp EPC contract instincts, from change orders to performance enforcement to claims avoidance Working fluency in construction sequencing (civil and electrical), project controls and scheduling tools such as Primavera P6 or MS Project, and earned value managementA degree in Construction Management, Civil or Electrical Engineering, or similar; PMP strongly preferred Comfort traveling 25 to 50% of the time to job sites around the countryA plus, not a requirement: BESS construction or commissioning experience, exposure to multiple ISO/RTO markets (ERCOT, CAISO, PJM, MISO, SPP), Lean or Six Sigma background, or time spent on both sides of the table (EPC contractor and project owner). The kind of person who thrives here Someone contractors respect but don't push around. A clear communicator who can turn a messy field problem into a tight update for the COO. Someone who can hold five things at once without losing sight of any one of them, and who genuinely enjoys the handoffs, working closely with pre-construction, engineering, supply chain, and asset management rather than guarding turf.
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
