About the role
The Controller leads day-to-day accounting and financial operations for Quadrangle, reporting directly to the founder. This is the senior finance role in a lean, founder-owned business generating roughly $20M in revenue with strong profitability, serving 800 investment management firm clients through teams of lawyers, sales/account managers, and technologists. The Controller owns the accuracy and timeliness of the company's financial records, manages cash and the credit facility, oversees payroll and benefits administration through the company's PEO, and ensures compliance across tax, pension, and internal control matters.
Core Responsibilities:
Own the monthly and quarterly close process, including GL maintenance, accruals, and GAAP-basis financial statements
Prepare management reporting for the founder: P&L by department and client segment, margin analysis, and KPI tracking
Manage cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, and compliance with the company's line of credit (covenants, draws, and repayments)
Oversee accounts receivable and collections across the client base, and accounts payable/vendor payment processes
Serve as the primary finance contact with the company's PEO for payroll processing, benefits administration, and related compliance
Administer the company's pension plan in coordination with the plan advisor/TPA, including contributions, testing, and required filings
Lead the annual budget and ongoing forecasting process across departments
Maintain internal controls appropriate to a firm handling confidential client financial and contract data
Coordinate tax filings and any external audit or review with outside accountants/advisors
Manage insurance renewals (E&O, cyber, general liability) and oversee vendor contracts for the business itself

Qualifications & ExperienceBachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred
8+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including at least 2-3 years in a controller or senior accounting manager role
Experience in a professional services, financial services, or data/analytics business preferred
Familiarity with PEO/co-employment payroll structures and multi-state compliance
Strong command of GAAP, revenue recognition for services/subscription models, and internal controls design
Proficiency with accounting/ERP systems and ability to work with billing, CRM, or time-tracking integrations
High discretion and sound judgment, given regular access to sensitive client and company financial data
Reporting Relationship & Work EnvironmentReports directly to the founder/CEO
Coordinates regularly with outside advisors: the company's bank, pension plan advisor/TPA, tax preparer, and insurance broker
Works closely with department leads across legal, sales/account management, and technology on budgeting and cost matters
Currently a standalone finance function; this role is expected to build out processes and, over time, additional finance staff
Location and in-office/hybrid schedule to be set by the hiring team
