Chief Schools Officer (CSO)AMS Impact Group is the education management organization supporting the Academies of Math and Science (AMS), a high-performing network of K8 public charter schools serving students across Arizona, Arkansas, and Nevada.For more than 20 years, AMS has focused on delivering rigorous instruction, strong school culture, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities. Today, AMS serves nearly 10,000 students and continues to expand its impact across multiple states.AMS Impact Group is seeking a results-driven and mission-aligned Chief Schools Officer (CSO) to serve as a key member of the executive leadership team. The CSO is responsible for the overall performance of all schools across the network, including academic outcomes, enrollment and retention, and leadership development.This role requires a proven operatorsomeone who has successfully led schools, managed school leaders, and driven measurable results at scale. The CSO will be accountable for ensuring strong academic performance, full and stable enrollment, and high-performing, well-supported teams across all campuses.Key ResponsibilitiesNetwork Performance & AccountabilityOwn and drive academic performance across all schools, including proficiency, growth, and state accountability outcomesEnsure consistency of performance across multiple states and school sitesOversee student persistence and staff retention strategies across the networkEstablish clear performance metrics and hold leaders accountable for resultsLeadership & Talent DevelopmentDirectly manage Directors of Schools and other senior instructional leadersBuild, coach, and evaluate school leaders to ensure high performance and alignment with network expectationsDevelop and maintain a strong pipeline of future school and network leadersMake strategic talent decisions to strengthen school and leadership qualityAcademic & Instructional StrategyOversee academic strategy, curriculum implementation, and assessment systemsEnsure consistent, high-quality instruction across all campusesDrive measurable improvements in student achievement, particularly in Title I communitiesPartner with academic teams to refine and strengthen instructional modelsSpecial Education & Student ServicesOversee Special Education (SPED) programming across all statesEnsure compliance with all federal and state requirementsBuild systems that support both compliance and strong academic outcomes for studentsSchool Operations & EnrollmentPartner with operational leaders to ensure strong execution across all campusesOwn student enrollment, retention, and family engagement strategiesEnsure schools are fully staffed and operationally preparedSupport development of strong school culture and family-facing systemsQualifications & ExperienceRequired QualificationsProven success as a Principal in a Title I school environmentExperience managing school leaders (e.g., Director of Schools, Principal Manager, or equivalent role)Demonstrated track record of:Strong academic outcomes within state accountability systemsIncreasing or sustaining student enrollmentHigh staff retention and strong team performanceAbility to manage performance across multiple schools or regionsStrong analytical, leadership, and decision-making skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience in charter school networks or multi-site leadership environmentsExperience working across multiple state accountability systemsOversight of academics, operations, or Special Education at scaleExperience leading school turnaround efforts or scaling high-performing schoolsLeadership ProfileThe ideal candidate:Sets a high bar for performance and holds leaders accountable to resultsUses data to diagnose challenges and drive timely, effective actionMakes clear, decisive decisions related to people, performance, and strategyBuilds systems that ensure consistency and scalability across schoolsThrives in complex, multi-state environments while maintaining focus on outcomesSuccess in This RoleSuccess will be measured by:Schools consistently meeting or exceeding state accountability benchmarksEnrollment targets met or exceeded across all campusesStrong student persistence in Title I communitiesHigh retention of school leaders and staffDevelopment of a strong pipeline of high-performing principalsWhy Join AMS Impact Group?Mission-driven organization committed to educational equity and student successOpportunity to lead and shape outcomes across a growing multi-state school networkCollaborative executive leadership team focused on performance and impactOpportunity to scale high-performing schools and drive meaningful changeJoin us to enjoy rewarding challenges and ongoing opportunities!
