Assignment Length: 13 weeks, November 9, 2026-February 8, 2027
Location: Carlsbad, New Mexico
Healthcare Setting: Acute-care hospital pharmacy
Schedule: Day shifts, typically 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday
Shift Duration: 8-hour days
Hours:
Approximately 40 hours per week
Weekend Coverage: Approximately one weekend per month, typically 7:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Call:
Rotating after-hours call shared among the pharmacy team; up to 7 days per month, including weekday, weekend, and holiday coverage

Hospital Pharmacist Job RequirementsDoctor of Pharmacy degree or equivalent pharmacy education
Active New Mexico Pharmacist license required
Current BLS certification required
At least 3 years of acute-care hospital pharmacy experience
Strong knowledge of medication safety, order verification, IV admixture preparation, and hospital pharmacy operations
Ability to comply with applicable state and federal pharmacy regulations, DEA requirements, accreditation standards, and hospital policies
Fingerprinting is required for travel pharmacists practicing in New Mexico
Comfort working independently during after-hours call and in an environment without continuous in-house pharmacy coverage
Acute-Care Pharmacy ResponsibilitiesVerify provider medication orders for accuracy, appropriateness, dosing, interactions, and contraindications
Safely prepare and dispense medications for patients of all ages and designated hospital areas
Prepare IV admixtures, nutritional supplements, and other compounded medications according to established standards
Collaborate with physicians and other clinicians regarding medication selection, dosing, monitoring, and adjustments
Support medication reconciliation, patient profile review, adverse drug reaction prevention, documentation, and reporting
Restock automated medication dispensing systems and maintain appropriate medication inventory
Supervise and support pharmacy technicians in daily operations
Educate nursing staff, patients, and providers on safe and effective medication use
Participate in medication safety initiatives and narcotic accountability processes
Provide scheduled weekend, holiday, and after-hours call coverage as assigned
