Location: Melville, NY (On-Site)
Salary: $100,000–$130,000/year, DOEPOSITION SUMMARYThe Component Engineer is responsible for the selection, qualification, technical management, and lifecycle support of components and hardware throughout the product lifecycle. This role works closely with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and external suppliers to ensure components meet design, performance, reliability, quality, cost, delivery, and regulatory requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Select, evaluate, qualify, and approve components and materials for new and existing programs. Develop and maintain component specifications, approved vendor lists, item master data, and other technical documentation. Review engineering drawings, datasheets, specifications, and technical requirements to ensure component suitability. Lead and support component qualification, validation, and technical assessments. Investigate component failures, non-conformances, and reliability issues and drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions. Work directly with suppliers to resolve technical and quality issues and address component obsolescence. Support engineering changes, component substitutions, alternate sourcing, and lifecycle management, including PCNs and GIDEP notifications. Partner with Manufacturing and Quality teams to resolve production and field-related component issues. Ensure component selections meet applicable military, commercial, international, regulatory, customer, and company requirements. Maintain accurate engineering records, configuration documentation, reports, and component data. Support continuous improvement initiatives related to component reliability, availability, cost, and lifecycle management.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. Master’s degree in Engineering is a plus.4+ years of engineering experience within a manufacturing environment, preferably aerospace, defense, aviation, or a related industry. Working knowledge of military, commercial, and international standards related to aerospace/electrical components, hardware, materials, and electronic or mechanical assemblies. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, datasheets, and technical documentation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (not required)Experience with Costpoint MRP, PLM, and engineering document-management systems. Familiarity with Mentor PADS, Autodesk Inventor, and AutoCAD.Experience supporting component lifecycle management, obsolescence, alternate sourcing, and supplier technical issues.
