About the role

Summary At Meta, we aim to bring together cross‑disciplinary minds in one place to deliver on our mission: build tools that help people feel connected, anytime, anywhere. As a Thermal Design Engineer, you will take a critical role in developing systems for wearables and/or new technology initiatives. You will be part of a team exploring and developing products over the full lifecycle, from prototypes to mass‑production. You will work as part of a cross‑functional team requiring collaboration in domains inside and outside thermal and fan engineering. This role intersects many disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and software engineering. Proven experience in solving complex problems, embracing ambiguity, and proactively identifying solutions while working with a wider team is essential. Required Skills Thermal Design Engineer Responsibilities: Develop physics‑based thermal models using programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, or Julia Support the design, development, and optimization of part, sub‑system, and system level design through collaboration with cross‑functional teams including mechanical, electrical, and software Develop part and sub‑system thermal and fan models using CFD and CAD tools Develop and optimize thermal designs while integrating new thermal technologies through partnering with mechanical and electrical engineers Support sub‑system and system‑level thermal verification through prototype testing Support the development of thermal control systems while building prototypes to test on physical HW Minimum Qualifications B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience 2+ years of experience in thermal design related to server/hardware, advanced packaging, or wearables Fundamentals in heat transfer, thermal/fluid sciences, or related physics Background in modeling using CAD and CFD tools, such as Fluent, StarCCM+, FloEFD or similar Experience in empirical testing and model correlation Experience in programming with a scripting language such as MATLAB, Python, or Julia to support development of models and automation tools Preferred Qualifications Experienced in developing consumer‑electronics devices or similar field Experience developing analytical, physics‑based thermal models Familiar with the latest state‑of‑the‑art in thermal materials, such as graphite spreaders, aerogels, thermal interface materials, heatpipes, vapor‑chambers, and fans Familiarity with control theory as applied to thermal management systems M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience Knowledge and applied applications in statistical analysis to gain insights in the performance of large numbers of devices Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements) Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews) Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies Public Compensation $118,000/year to $170,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits Industry Internet Equal Opportunity Meta is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity and affirmative action employer. Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
