Job Description Job Description About the Role: Consolidated Medical Bio-Analysis is looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Accessioner to join our team in Cypress, CA! This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in the clinical laboratory workflow, ensuring accurate and efficient specimen processing that directly impacts patient care.
Responsibilities: The accessioner performs laboratory specimen receipt, processing, and data entry activities.(a) The accessioner operates data entry systems and processes related paperwork to register patient and specimen information into an electronic format.(b) The accessioner is responsible for the processing of laboratory requisitions and test specimens in the pre-analytical and/or post-analytical phase, with occasional involvement in the analytical phase under the constant and direct supervision of licensed personnel, to ensure positive patient/specimen identification and accurate test information are maintained throughout the entire process.(c) The accessioner may perform the following activities-a. Timely and accurate receiving, accessioning, and processing of laboratory test requisitions and specimens; b. Identifying and labeling all specimens with assigned specimen numbers; c. Performing accurate and timely data entry of patient demographics, test orders, and diagnosis information; d. Reviewing requisitions and correcting demographic or order discrepancies to minimize delays in testing; e. Biological specimen labeling, handling, preservation, transportation, storage, and disposal in accordance with laboratory protocols; f. Spinning, aliquoting, and segregating specimens following approved processing procedures; g. Maintaining proper organization and tracking of original and pour-off specimens; h. Preparing send-out test requisitions and specimens; i. Performing daily specimen maintenance and disposal of completed samples following established protocol; j. Working collaboratively with specimen processors, data entry staff, couriers, and laboratory personnel; k. Re-prioritizing daily tasks based on testing volume and operational needs; l. Assisting with clerical, administrative, and supply stocking duties as assigned by the supervisor; m. Maintaining a safe and clean working environment at all times; n. Performs other duties as assigned that are necessary to ensure efficient operations, patient care, and compliance with organizational standards.
Requirements: The accessioner is defined as unlicensed laboratory personnel under the California Business and Professions Code. The accessioner must-(a) Have earned a high school diploma, or its equivalent, as determined by HCFA under CLIA;(b) Have at least one year of experience in a medical laboratory, data entry, or related healthcare environment (preferred);(c) Have documentation of training appropriate to ensure the individual has all of the following skills and abilities-(1) The skills required for proper specimen labeling, handling, preservation or fixation, processing or preparation, transportation, and storage of specimens;(2) A working knowledge of specimen stability and storage;(d) Demonstrate familiarity with-(1) Medical laboratory terminology;(2) Laboratory workflows, standards, and procedures;(3) Computer systems and laboratory information systems;(e) Demonstrate the ability to-(1) Follow written procedures;(2) Multitask in a fast-paced and stressful environment;(3) Communicate technical information and follow directions from CLS staff and supervisors;(4) Utilize office and laboratory equipment including computers, printers, barcode label printers, fax machines, and copiers;(5) Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail when processing patient and test information.
