Role Description: The Veterinary Technician role at Pets Ahoy Animal Hospital is a full-time, on-site position located in Macomb, MI. The Veterinary Technician supports veterinarians with daily clinical tasks, including patient intake, medical history gathering, restraint and handling, and preparation of animals for exams and procedures. Responsibilities include assisting with diagnostics, laboratory tests, imaging, and anesthetic monitoring, as well as administering medications and treatments under veterinary supervision. The role also involves maintaining clean and organized treatment areas, ensuring proper patient records, and providing clear client education on home care, preventive health, and post-procedure instructions. The Veterinary Technician collaborates closely with the veterinary and support teams to promote efficient workflow, high-quality animal care, and a safe environment for patients and clients.
Qualifications: Demonstrated skills in Animal Care and Pet Care, including safe handling, restraint, and compassionate treatment of companion animals. Proficiency in Veterinary Technology, such as assisting with exams, diagnostics, laboratory procedures, and medical record documentation. Experience or training in Anesthesiology support, including patient preparation, monitoring vital signs, and post-anesthesia care under veterinary supervision. Ability to provide clear, respectful Client Education, explaining treatment plans, preventive care, and home-care instructions. Completion of an accredited veterinary technology program or equivalent experience; licensure or certification as a Veterinary Technician (LVT/CVT/RVT) preferred. Strong attention to detail, ability to follow clinical protocols, and commitment to workplace safety and infection control standards. Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment and manage multiple priorities. Basic computer skills for practice management software and electronic medical records; prior experience in a small-animal veterinary setting is beneficial.
