Job Description: Grounds Maintenance Worker
Summary/Objective:
The Grounds Maintenance Worker assists with all aspects of grounds maintenance to provide a safe, clean, and well-maintained campus environment.
Essential functions:
Operates grounds maintenance equipment to mow, trim, prune, and perform related landscaping work
Operates a backhoe and forklift
Cleans and maintains grounds maintenance equipment
Maintains the lawn sprinkler system
Assists with building maintenance and other operational needs as assigned
Performs other duties as assigned
Competencies:
Job Knowledge:
Demonstrates knowledge of seasonal plants, sprinkler systems, landscaping practices, and grounds maintenance equipment.
Communication Skills:
Communicates clearly, follows troubleshooting procedures, and collaborates with maintenance team members and other departments to address needs and resolve issues.
Professionalism:
Manages time effectively, prioritizes multiple requests, and completes assigned work reliably. Demonstrates a willingness to learn and adapt to new equipment, methods, and procedures and remains current through training and professional development.
Supervisory responsibilities: None
Work Environment:
The Grounds Maintenance Worker works both indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to inclement weather, noise, and dust. A standard workweek, as assigned by administration, is required. Evening or weekend hours may also be required to support school activities or respond to emergencies.
Physical Demands:
This position requires physically strenuous work. While performing the duties of this position, the employee must lift, move, or position objects weighing up to 50 pounds or more; climb to elevated surfaces or rooftops; drive maintenance vehicles; and operate heavy equipment necessary to complete assigned duties.
Travel required
Occasional travel within and outside of the Great Plains Technology Center district may be required for work at other school sites, professional development, and participation in other Great Plains Technology Center activities.
Required education and experience
High school diploma or equivalency
Preferred education and experience
Job-related experience within a specialized field having demonstrated increasing levels of responsibility
