About the role
Laboratory Animal TechnicianThe Laboratory Animal Technician performs semi-routine or diversified work that requires the ability to differentiate established principles and practices from unique occurrences, which may necessitate adapting or modifying methods. The Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) will carry out routine animal care activities, keep records, administer injections, provide exercise and environmental enrichment for various species, assist in or demonstrate proper work procedures to trainees and other personnel, follow good laboratory practice and housekeeping procedures, work under isolation conditions, assist with administering routine treatments, maintain colonies of animals, perform components of the process of breeding and developing breeding colonies, perform data collection, weigh, sort, and examine animals for obvious physical defects, identification, sex, house animals in proper locations, quarantine and isolation, assist with the collection of clinical samples, recognize abnormal symptoms and behavior, prepare food and feed the animals correct portions, monitor and record environmental conditions, change air filters, use facility security systems, evaluate watering and environmental monitoring equipment, clean and sterilize animal cages, feeders, bottles, and other equipment, clean animal rooms, maintain general cleanliness, perform minor assembly of equipment, lubricate equipment, make minor adjustments and repairs, record the readings of machine function indicators, receive and store feed, bedding and other supplies, handle and restrain animals, assist with procedures, follow operational procedures, work cooperatively with other employees, exert moderate physical effort, report all errors promptly, have direct contact mostly with immediate supervisor, other departmental employees, and research personnel.
