About the role
Boston, MAHybridFull Time$175k - $200kJob Description A fast-growing fintech and insurtech company is seeking an AI Engineer to join its engineering team and help build AI-powered products and services at scale. This role is heavily focused on backend development and Generative AI, with an emphasis on designing, building, and deploying production-grade AI systems. The ideal candidate has a strong Java engineering background, experience building scalable microservices, and a track record of integrating LLMs and AI capabilities into customer-facing applications.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and optimize backend services that support AI and LLM-powered workflows. Build and maintain scalable APIs and microservices using Java and modern backend frameworks. Integrate AI and machine learning models into production environments with a focus on reliability, performance, and scalability. Develop and own AI-powered features from concept through deployment. Monitor and evaluate AI system performance in both testing and production environments. Troubleshoot issues across AI services, model serving infrastructure, and backend systems. Partner with product and engineering teams to define requirements and deliver technical solutions. Contribute to architecture discussions, code reviews, and platform improvements.
Required:
Skills & Experience 4+ years of backend software engineering experience. Strong experience with Java and modern backend development frameworks. Experience building and supporting APIs, microservices, and distributed systems. Experience integrating AI, machine learning, or LLM-based solutions into production applications. Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure and modern application architectures. Experience with monitoring, observability, and production support. Experience designing scalable, reliable, and high-performance systems. Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Desired Skills:
Experience with Spring Boot or similar Java frameworks. Experience with Generative AI, LLMs, RAG, agentic workflows, or prompt engineering. Familiarity with AI evaluation frameworks and model performance monitoring. Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP. Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and containerized environments. Exposure to Python for AI/ML development.
