Location:
Remote pre-close and very likely on-site post-close (ultimately TBD)Commitment: Full-time
Duration: Initial commitment of 5 years (forever if a good fit)
SUMMARY:
Hi! We're a holding company looking for someone to join our team. We're solving for someone with great references for: work ethic, scrappiness, rigor, being extremely organized / high attention to detail, kindness, honesty (banking and/or PE experience is a plus). If interested, we'd love to hear from you. We’re super rigid on these filters and ultimately eliminate the vast majority of candidates (typically out of several thousand applicants) based on them. Please only proceed if you think your profile matches well with these criteria (e.g., 2 or fewer jobs in last 5 yrs, stellar references, high previous job ranking/performance, ideally high undergrad GPA + GMAT, operations-not financial-focus/interests, etc.)
Note:
Our process will rely significantly on off-sheet references (but we will not contact your current employer without your permission, of course).TUCKER’S FARM BACKGROUNDFirm Name: Tucker’s Farm Corporation Firm Website: www.tuckersfarm.com
Firm Description:
We are a low-profile, value-oriented holding vehicle modeled after Berkshire Hathaway that aims to acquire ~$150 million of businesses every year (~$75 million equity). The founders/investment team is composed of value investors from Apollo Global Management (~$60bn private equity group) and Viking Global Investors (~$30bn hedge fund). We have various subsidiaries or ‘platforms’ (also known as rollups, aggregations, or buy-and-builds). Each platform is capitalized with a long-term equity base (from our own capital and select partners like insurance company, endowment managers, etc.) and has the sole mandate of compounding cash flows for the long term, primarily through M&A. We have a broad mandate and look for opportunities across industries, geographies, and the capital structure, although our primary focus is on rollups. We are investing out of our recently raised $100m+ holding vehicle.
OVERVIEW:
OF CEO ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIESActivities The role combines deploying approximately $40 million of equity through acquisitions with leading the operations of acquired assets. We are looking for an executional rock star. The role is highly hands-on and operational—messy, unglamorous, and deeply involved in the daily minutiae of small business optimization—rather than traditional allocator or investment professional work (e.g., modeling and deal analysis). Traditional financial activities will represent a small minority of the CEO’s time. Success requires rolling up your sleeves, operating with limited resources and imperfect information, and personally solving problems that would be delegated in a larger organization. Said simply, if your goal is to be Warren Buffett, this role is not for you.o M&A/Integration (20%)Deploy approximately $40 million of equity through strategic acquisitions. Source and evaluate acquisition opportunities in coordination with Tucker’s Farm’s M&A team. Lead the integration of acquired businesses and develop a repeatable playbook for future platform expansion.o Operational Leadership (80%) · Lead platform operations following the acquisition of the first asset. This includes: (1) providing daily operational leadership and strategic direction across all business units; (2) overseeing budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation through clear KPIs—and holding team members accountable for performance; and (3) leading the recruitment, training, and development of management team members. The CEO must be equally willing to set the strategy and dive into the weeds—doing whatever is required to solve problems, improve performance, and build the platform. Role Trade-offso (+) You will be an early team member at a high-growth holding company.o (+) You will work with and learn from a highly successful PE team with a top investing track record.o (+) You will have a big title and significant autonomy and responsibility.o (+) You will have a lot of fun in a scrappy, entrepreneurial environment.o (=) You will be doing a lot of non-financial, hands-on, highly people based work (not thinking big financial or strategic thoughts).o (-) If joining a large, established company with a big brand is appealing to you or you enjoy structured environments, then this opportunity is not a fit. Qualificationso Low career turnover: excluding business school (and related internships), 2 or fewer jobs in the last 5 yearso Stellar references: that speak to work ethic, kindness + honesty – our process relies heavily on ‘off-sheet’ references regarding past performance. We typically find a way to connect with 5+ past co-workers and senior people (but will not contact your current employer without your permission).o High ranking/previous performance: in previous roles, with references that will speak to that stellar performance.o Highly organized operational rockstar (not financial): high attention to detail, highly responsive, consistent, conscientious, superb at to-do lists, general execution and project management, including managing multiple workstreams and teams of people (internal and external, including sellers, advisors, lawyers, accountants, etc.). Excels at keeping the trains running on time and the t’s crossed and i’s dotted!o High undergrad GPA / GMAT: while not always relevant (especially with stellar references), we believe there can be some signal in GPA / GMAT and use it.o Investing Experience (nice to have): ideally at least 2+ years of investing/PE experience. Compensationo Slightly depends on candidate profile, but our starting base case is ~$300k - $350k/year in cash + significant equity upside. (We’re selecting for folks who view this trade as an entrepreneurial / fun /big-title-and-growth opportunity vs. a brand name opportunity, which we’re not yet)Role Application Methodo Submit your resume via email to hiring@tuckersfarm.com (please include some indication of previous job ranking / performance, undergrad GPA, any GMAT/GRE score) with the subject line “CEO - LAST NAME, FIRST NAME”.
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
