Overview: A simple cycle gas power plant operator is seeking an Instrument & Control Technician II (Senior Technician) to maintain and optimize its distributive control system (DCS) and associated field devices, including the Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS). This role is central to ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant plant operations through hands‑on technical expertise and strong coordination with the operations and maintenance team.
What you'll do: Administer processes and procedures as directed by the O&M Manager, including identifying and implementing on‑condition tasks Evaluate recommended changes based on cost/benefit analysis and specify instrument and electrical changes as needed Complete the O&M Tech I qualification process within 2 years of hire date Work safely, following company and operator policies, procedures, and work practices in a positive, cooperative manner Compute and analyze test data using installed and portable test equipment and technical manuals to troubleshoot equipment and systems Monitor, maintain, and review system startup procedures to determine control and electrical personnel support requirements Coordinate job activities relating to job planning, work methods, job standards, and job reporting Perform routine and non‑routine preventative and corrective maintenance on plant equipment Assist other plant personnel as needed and maintain site buildings and grounds Maintain, calibrate, and repair plant instrumentation and control devices Prepare, maintain, and provide reports/documents as required Review P&I Drawings and logic diagrams Communicate the condition of plant systems and equipment to others Create procedures related to instrumentation and electrical systems Direct and perform work in accordance with company and regulatory agency policies and procedures Operate plant mobile equipment, including forklifts and man lifts Maintain documentation records of calibration, tests, and certification of electrical and instrument equipment Support job responsibilities outside of scheduled work hours as needed Travel occasionally as required Perform other duties as assigned
Required qualifications: Two‑year technical degree and a minimum of 5 years of power plant and/or industrial electrical, instrumentation, or electronics experience; significant equivalent experience may substitute for the degree Experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS), GE Mark VI and ABB Bailey INFI 90, various PLC controllers, and Teledyne Monitor Labs CEMS controls and equipment Knowledge of equipment operating limits, parameters, operating procedures, and systems, including performing corrective actions when limits are exceeded Working knowledge of combined cycle power plant systems, operations, maintenance, electrical principles, work practices, procedures, and materials Ability to interpret control drawings and P&ID's Ability to make maintenance‑related decisions with minimal direct supervision Knowledge of instrumentation test equipment, signal generators, relay test sets, oscilloscopes, and computers Knowledge of industry‑related CEM System hardware, software, and reporting Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills Strong mechanical aptitude with an advanced understanding of chemistry, physics, electricity, and mathematics Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and exercise sound judgment Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills Basic computer knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point, and other programs Ability to interact and communicate well with individuals across the company and outside vendors Valid U.S. Driver license with acceptable MVR history, if applicable
