About the role
- Works with EMR (electronic medical record) and hospital room service system to get the most recent diet information on each
- EMR to make sure all food allergy information has entered the hospital room service system.
- Processes new diets and changes as required in a timely manner
- Promptly answers/responds to phone calls/voice mail in order to accurately assist the caller
- Guides patients on menu selection with regards to dietary restrictions
- Able to track patient's carbohydrate counts and sodium levels based on prescribed dietary restrictions
- Ensures accuracy of room trays by checking/read back selections to patients
- Updates pertinent menu and nourishment orders with care and accuracy
- Is able to answer general questions on approved diets
- Notifies the Clinical Dietitian of patients who have diet questions and/or who are not following prescribed diet.
- Clarifies diet orders using the dietitian or nursing staff if not clearly understood.
- Able to utilize Microsoft Excel software
- Able to perform data entry tasks as assigned
- Able to complete basic food preparatory tasks as assigned
