As the largest city in western Colorado, it offers a nice balance: small-town friendliness with the amenities of a regional hub, home to Colorado Mesa University. Outdoor recreation is a major draw - hiking, mountain biking, and scenic drives through nearby Colorado National Monument, rafting and fishing along the rivers, and the Western Colorado Botanical Gardens for a quieter afternoon outdoors. For bigger-city amenities, Denver and Salt Lake City are each about a four-hour drive away. With its rivers, red rock scenery, and strong sense of community, it's an appealing place to settle down.
