About the role

We're on an exciting journey to create one of the most irresistible travel brands in the world and are building an epic team to help make our ambition a reality. We are on the hunt for a super talented someone who is passionate about rolling out the red carpet for our Epic Crew. Passionate about People and helping them learn?! Us too! The Training & Development Manager owns learning and development on their assigned ship. The role diagnoses where a performance or capability gap is a training problem, and builds the programs, leaders, and Certified Trainers needed to close it, even as the ship's Crew turns over every few months. The role partners with the People Director and shipboard leaders to identify capability and performance needs, strengthen department-led development, and ensure Crew receive the learning and support needed to perform safely and successfully. Working with shoreside Learn & Grow, the Training & Development Manager keeps shipboard learning priorities and solutions aligned with fleet and company standards, while adapting delivery to the realities of this ship and its Crew. What You'll be Up To: Own the day-to-day delivery and effectiveness of the ship’s learning and development function. Lead, coach, and develop the Training & Development Specialist, including setting priorities, assigning work, monitoring quality, and supporting their continued growth. Establish a clear learning plan and calendar that reflects approved priorities, operational requirements, mandatory training, and the ship’s most important capability needs. Build Crew and leadership capability across the ship through targeted development and ongoing support. Facilitate learning programs and experiences for Crew and leaders across the ship. Own Crowd and Crisis Management certifications and HR compliance learning, including delivery, completion tracking, reporting, records, and risk escalation. Evaluate learning effectiveness and assess the maturity of the onboard learning function against established standards. Partner with the People Director and shoreside Learn & Grow to review and prioritize learning needs against ship, fleet, compliance, and enterprise priorities. Deploy enterprise and fleet learning programs in accordance with the intended outcomes, standards, materials, and implementation guidance provided by shoreside Learn & Grow. Maintain strong working relationships with department leaders to understand their operations, Crew experience, performance priorities, and emerging capability needs. Conduct thorough learning needs analyses to diagnose shipboard capability gaps, report findings to shoreside Learn & Grow, and collaborate on the appropriate solution. Provide shipboard feedback to shoreside Learn & Grow to support the continued improvement of enterprise programs, materials, tools, and learning standards. Maintain an effective Certified Departmental Trainer program, including trainer selection, onboarding, development, calibration, recognition, and accountability. Support new leaders in acquiring and applying the knowledge and skills required to successfully complete their first 90 days through the new leader onboarding experience and related workplace support. Train and coach onboard facilitators and maintain ship wide facilitation standards. Promote learning opportunities, resources, initiatives, and digital learning across the ship. Superpowers Required: Minimum of 3 years of experience in learning and development, training, or a related field. Bachelor’s degree in Learning and Development, Education, Human Resources, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience. Proven ability to facilitate engaging and inclusive learning for global, multicultural audiences. Excellent communication, coaching, and influencing skills. Knowledge of adult learning principles and the ability to design practical, just-in-time learning solutions. Strong learning needs analysis skills, including the ability to identify and diagnose capability gaps. Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills. Working knowledge of learning management systems; experience with talent management systems preferred. Proficiency in written and spoken English. Highly organized with strong attention to detail. All certificates as required by the STCW code for this position. What Matters to Us: At Virgin, your personality matters as much as how good you are at what you do. We want you to bring it to our hang out spot and help make the place even better. So, we won't be surprised to hear that when people talk about you they say you are clever, on top of it, able to think ahead, intuitive, passionate and someone people respect and enjoy working with because you make things happen. Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
