News Producer/MMJ (Weekend/Midweek) San Diego, CA | Full Time | COMPENSATION RANGE: 65,000.00 - 75,000.00
Summary: The News Producer / MMJ is responsible for the development, writing, and editorial organization of local newscasts, as well as hands-on reporting and content creation. This role oversees live broadcasts, handles breaking news editorial decisions, and produces compelling visual storytelling across on-air and digital platforms. The ideal candidate works closely with the News Director, Assignment Editor, and production team to pitch, research, write, and execute high-quality news content. Schedule & Hours This is a Full-Time position operating on a 5-day shift: Weekends (Saturday & Sunday) plus 3 Midweek days (e.g., Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). Must be able to work holidays and flexible hours as breaking news requires.
Essential Functions: Produce, write, and organize dynamic newscasts using strong editorial judgment, creative graphics, and strategic video showcasing. Report, shoot, and edit original enterprise news stories as a Multimedia Journalist (MMJ). Coordinate live field coverage, interviews, and real-time logistics for breaking news. Write, edit, and publish engaging content across the station's digital and social media platforms. Maintain continuity and workflow between weekend operations and midweek newsroom teams.
Competencies: Multi-task in a dynamic, high pressure, deadline and content driven and technology-intensive environment. Candidates must be able to read, write and speak Spanish fluently. Strong proficiency in iNews preferred. Self-Starter who knows how to craft news, sports, and weather stories from beginning to end. Excellent written and oral communication. Excellent People Skills. Sound Judgment. Strategic Thinking. Strong Leadership. Teamwork. Qualifications & Requirements Language: Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking both English and Spanish (Bilingual required). Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or related field (or equivalent experience) plus 3+ years of experience in a broadcast newsroom. Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in newsroom systems (iNews preferred), non-linear video editing, and live-shot execution. Journalistic Integrity: Solid understanding of newsgathering ethics, libel laws, and community sourcing in the San Diego market. POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK This is a Full Time position.
