About the role

About the Role: Control AV, LLC is a design-build systems integrator serving the cruise industry, delivering broadcast, entertainment, and communications infrastructure for both shipyards and vessel owners across newbuild construction and refit/drydock projects. We are seeking an AV Network Design Engineer to architect the IP network infrastructure that carries AV, broadcast, and media traffic across our shipboard systems. This is a design engineering role, not network administration or IT support. The focus is planning, specifying, designing, and commissioning networks during design and construction, topology, redundancy, capacity, and standards compliance not day-to-day operation of a vessel's IT systems post-delivery.
Key Responsibilities: Network Architecture & Design Design IP network topology, VLAN segmentation, and multicast routing (IGMP/PIM) for AV and broadcast traffic, and specify switches, routers, and fiber/copper infrastructure sized for AV-over-IP protocols (SMPTE ST 2110, QLAN, Dante, NDI) Engineer QoS/traffic prioritization and PTP timing/synchronization to support real-time, low-latency media flows Redundancy & Standards Compliance Design resilient, redundant network paths (e.g., SMPTE 2022-7 style dual-path protection) for mission-critical broadcast and production traffic Design network segmentation and produce topology documentation that clearly demarcates the AV/broadcast network from the vessel's safety-critical OT systems, supporting the ship's overall IACS UR E26/E27 compliance Newbuild & Refit Execution Produce network architecture diagrams, IP addressing schemas, and port/cable schedules for shipyard installation teams Support FAT/SAT, commissioning, and sea trials — verifying multicast flows, latency, and redundancy failover performance Documentation & Coordination Maintain as-built network documentation and asset inventories to support class and cybersecurity requirements Define integration and handoff points with the vessel's core IT/OT network, coordinating with (not operating) the owner's IT infrastructure team
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience 3+ years designing IP networks specifically for AV, broadcast, or media production environments — not general enterprise IT/network administration Strong grounding in network fundamentals: VLAN segmentation, multicast routing, QoS/traffic prioritization, redundant topology design Familiarity with AV-over-IP standards and protocols (SMPTE ST 2110, SMPTE 2022-7, AES67, QLAN, Dante, NDI) Ability to produce network architecture diagrams, IP addressing schemas, and port/cable schedules Willingness and ability to travel (10-25%), including international shipyards Valid passport or ability to obtain a passport as a condition of employment
Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience in cruise (newbuild or refit) or themed entertainment industries. Familiarity with IACS UR E26/E27 cyber resilience requirements, particularly how they drive network segmentation and boundary documentation between IT/entertainment networks and OT/safety-critical systems Vendor certifications relevant to AV/media networking (e.g., SDVoE, Cisco, Arista, Audinate Dante)
Schedule/Work Location
Employment Type: Full-time Ability to Commute/Travel Location: Miami, FL 33169 Monday to Friday - In person/Office Benefits: 401(k) Health insurance Dental insurance Vision insurance Paid time off

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
