- Your Day to Day as a HPDU Safety Manager at BWXT NOGJ:Safety Program Development: Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs and policies in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices
- Regularly review and update safety protocols to ensure relevance and compliance
- Risk Assessment and Compliance: Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies
- Analyze incident reports and develop strategies to prevent reoccurrence
- Training and Education: Design and deliver safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors to promote awareness of safety practices and protocols
- Maintain documentation of training programs and employee participation
- IncidentInvestigation: Lead investigations of workplace safety incidents and near misses, documenting findings and developing corrective action plans
- Communicate findings to management and relevant stakeholders, ensuring that follow-up actions are implemented
- EmergencyPreparedness: Participate in the development and implementation of emergency response plans, ensuring that all facility personnel are familiar with protocols
- Conduct regular drills and training sessions to prepare staff for emergency situations
- Data Management and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incident reports, and training activities
- Prepare and present safety reports and metrics to management, identifying trends and recommending improvements
- Compliance with
- Regulations: Stay informed about changes in safety regulations and industry standards, ensuring that the facility remains compliant
- Liaise with regulatory agencies during inspections and audits
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with other departments to integrate safety practices into daily operations
- Foster a culture of safety by promoting open communication about safety concerns and encouraging employee engagement in safety initiatives
- Requires a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related science or engineering field; a master's degree is a plus
- Requires 8+ years of experience in safety management, preferably in a chemical processing facility
- Requires extensive knowledge of safety regulations, policies, and best practices (e.g., OSHA, EPA)
- Requires experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Programs (RMP) (related to OSHA and EPA requirements)
- Requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risks and implement effective solutions
- Requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence employees at all levels
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST) are preferredMust be able to work effectively in a team environment and effectively interface with all levels of personnel internal and external to the Company
- Requires proficiency in safety management software and Microsoft Office SuiteMust be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance
- Requires US Citizenship with no dual citizenship
