About the role

This is an onsite, approximately four-month contract based in Portland, Oregon, with an anticipated start date of 11/30. We are seeking an Associate Technical Designer to support seasonal apparel development across baby, toddler, and kids' categories. This is a hands-on contract opportunity for a detail-oriented technical design professional who enjoys working closely with product, development, and vendor partners to bring high-quality garments to market. You will partner with a Senior Technical Designer and a collaborative cross-functional team to manage styles from design handoff through production approval. The ideal candidate brings strong garment construction knowledge, confidence in fittings and measurements, and the ability to take ownership after a short onboarding period.
Responsibilities: Support seasonal technical design and development from design handoff through production approval. Create and maintain tech packs, technical sketches, specifications, measurement charts, and fit comments. Prepare garments and samples for fittings; measure, evaluate fit, and document revisions. Partner with Technical Design, Product Development, and vendors to resolve fit, construction, and quality issues. Communicate daily with vendors on samples, corrections, approvals, and development timelines. Maintain style tracking and ensure deliverables meet calendar and production deadlines. Support multiple product categories and contribute to team priorities as needed. Work onsite with samples, dress forms, and product during the initial phase of the assignment.
Qualifications: 2-4 years of technical design experience in apparel. Strong knowledge of garment construction, fit, measurements, patternmaking, and grading. Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, including technical flats and tech pack creation. Experience working with PLM systems; familiarity with Centric, Cubix, or similar platforms is a plus. Hands-on experience with fittings, sample management, and vendor communication. Kids', baby, sleepwear, knitwear, or sweater experience is preferred, though general apparel experience is welcome. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities independently. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative, solutions-focused approach. Bachelor's degree in Apparel Design, Textiles, Fashion Merchandising, or equivalent experience preferred.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
