Excess Casualty Underwriter – Renewable Energy
Location: New York, NYHybrid, downtown Manhattan area We are seeking an experienced Excess Casualty Underwriter with a strong background in renewable energy risks to join a growing specialty team. This underwriter will evaluate, price, and manage complex casualty exposures across solar, wind, battery storage, and emerging clean‑energy technologies, with a focus on disciplined underwriting, broker engagement, and profitable portfolio growth.
Responsibilities: Underwrite excess casualty risks within the renewable energy sector, including contractors, developers, owners/operators, manufacturers, and EPCs. Analyze loss trends, exposure profiles, contractual risk transfer, and severity‑driven casualty exposures. Determine pricing, terms, conditions, and attachment strategies in alignment with underwriting guidelines and market conditions. Build and maintain strong relationships with wholesale and retail brokers active in the renewable energy space. Collaborate with actuarial, claims, risk engineering, and leadership on referrals, complex risks, and portfolio strategy. Contribute to underwriting guidelines, appetite refinement, and portfolio development initiatives. Represent the organization at industry events, broker meetings, and renewable‑energy market forums. Support growth objectives through disciplined underwriting, market intelligence, and proactive broker engagement.
Qualifications: 3–7+ years of casualty underwriting experience; renewable energy or construction casualty strongly preferred. Strong understanding of excess layers, severity‑driven risks, and contractual risk transfer. Ability to evaluate complex renewable‑energy exposures and emerging technologies. Established broker relationships within the energy or specialty casualty market. Strong analytical skills and comfort working with actuarial and portfolio data. Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship‑management skills. Ability to thrive in a fast‑moving, growth‑oriented specialty environment.
Required Skills: Technically strong excess casualty underwriting capabilities. Experience with renewable‑energy risks and emerging clean‑energy technologies. Ability to balance disciplined underwriting with market engagement. Strong broker engagement and relationship‑management skills.
Preferred Skills: Renewable energy or construction casualty experience. Established broker relationships within the energy or specialty casualty market. Experience contributing to portfolio strategy and development initiatives.110-150k Salary, Plus bonus.
