Title: R&D Service Engineer
Location: Onsite 5 days/week in Indianapolis, IN 46268
Duration: Long-term contract - 1 year w/ ongoing extensions
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm or 7am-4pm
Targeted Pay Range: $30/hr - $45/hr (based on experience, education, certifications etc.)-Health/vision/dental benefits available Must-Haves: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biotechnology, or related field 3+ years of service engineering or technical support experience supporting lab automation or life sciences equipment such as incubators, centrifuges, and automated liquid handlers Strong understanding of biological science and/or chemistry laboratory processes Experience supporting automated laboratory systems (Hamilton, Tecan, Beckman Coulter, custom robotics, etc.)Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with a hands-on technical approach Experience with preventative maintenance, calibration, and instrument repair Understanding of GLP, biosafety, laboratory compliance, and safety standards Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills with the ability to quickly adopt emerging technologies Plusses: Experience with integrated lab automation platforms Strong documentation skills including SOP creation and technical manuals Training and end-user support experience Experience in research-focused laboratory environments
Job Description: Insight Global is seeking an R&D Service Engineer for a leading agricultural science and biotechnology client. This candidate will serve as a key technical resource supporting research laboratory equipment and automation systems within a fast-paced R&D environment. The ideal candidate will provide hands-on troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, calibration, repair, and user support for biology-based instrumentation including automated liquid handlers, incubators, centrifuges, and integrated automation platforms. They will collaborate closely with scientists, engineers, and equipment vendors to optimize automation workflows, validate new technologies, improve system performance, and ensure compliance with laboratory quality and safety standards. This role is ideal for a technically driven professional who enjoys solving complex problems, supporting cutting-edge research, and partnering with stakeholders to drive scientific innovation.
Day-to-Day: Provide technical support and maintenance for biology-based laboratory instruments Troubleshoot hardware, software, and integration issues within automated lab environments Perform preventative maintenance, calibration, and equipment repairs Partner with R&D scientists to optimize automation workflows Support equipment validation, installation, commissioning, and user training Collaborate with OEM vendors and service partners Analyze system performance data and recommend reliability improvements Maintain service records and contribute to SOPs, technical documentation, and knowledge bases Ensure GLP compliance and adherence to safety and quality standards Support laboratory operations through hands-on technical expertise
