Role Description:
The Legal Secretary will provide comprehensive administrative and legal support to attorneys in an on-site, full-time role based in Melville, NY. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing, formatting, and proofreading legal documents, correspondence, and court filings, as well as managing case files and maintaining organized electronic and physical records. The role involves scheduling and maintaining attorney calendars, coordinating meetings, hearings, and deadlines, and assisting with diary management to ensure timely follow-up on all matters. The Legal Secretary will also handle clerical tasks such as answering phones, processing mail, managing document production, and liaising with courts, clients, and vendors. The position requires consistent attention to detail, discretion in handling confidential information, and the ability to support multiple attorneys in a litigation-focused practice.
Qualifications:
Strong foundation in law-related support functions, including familiarity with litigation processes and legal terminology.
Proficiency in legal document preparation, including drafting, formatting, and filing pleadings and motion papers.
Experience supporting attorneys or legal assistants in a law firm or legal department setting.
Solid clerical skills, including typing, document management, filing, and use of office productivity software.
Effective diary management skills, including calendar coordination, scheduling, and tracking deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and collaborate in a team-oriented environment.
Prior experience in insurance defense, personal injury, or medical malpractice litigation is a plus.
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree, paralegal certificate, or relevant legal training preferred.
