Part-time, up to 6 hours per week (up to 8 hours occasionally), 44 weeks/year, rehearsals 1.5–2 hours weekly

Position Summary:
The Associate Conductor works closely with the Program Manager and Department Director to guide and instruct ensemble participants, fostering a welcoming environment and facilitating musical growth through well-planned rehearsals. The role culminates in at least one performance per semester.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Department Director and Program Manager to create a positive, community-oriented advancement environment.
Lead rehearsals for musicians of all ages.
Build a cohesive community centered around Heart of LA’s core values.
Provide guidance to Section Mentors to maintain musical excellence and community cohesion.
Communicate with EIM musicians to holistically understand each participant.
Prepare, communicate, and collaborate with administrative staff to ensure smooth programming.
Attend regular planning meetings and checkpoints with direct supervisors and program staff.
Ensure compliance with attendance, background checks, and other regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with the Program Director to select repertoire and set clear expectations and goals that contribute to ensemble musical excellence.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Four-year undergraduate degree or equivalent experience required; postgraduate degree or equivalent experience a plus.
Demonstrated excellent musicianship and artistry.
Experience giving musical instruction; communal setting preferred.
Strong knowledge of repertoire, curriculum, and pedagogy related to chosen instrument(s).
Experience working with adults from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work effectively within a diverse community.
A sense of humor is highly desirable.
Bilingual in Spanish or Korean is a plus.
Must pass a CA Background Check.
Physical Demands &
Work Environment:
Key physical demands include regular talking or hearing, frequent use of hands/fingers, standing, walking, sitting, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and occasionally lifting or moving up to 25 pounds. Visual tasks entail close, distance, color, peripheral, and focus adjustments. The noise level is moderate; the building does not consistently provide air conditioning and heat. Outdoor work may be required.
